Vegan MoFo Day 29 – Snacks, or Cool Packaging

Nothing great to post today, bad night shift, sleep, and now I gotta go do it again. So, here’s some snacks we bought last week.

Ste got this seaweed, check out Cartman-esque character dying from the spice! I hate seaweed, I want to like it, but its just so gross. Tastes like stinking beaches to me, ugh! I gave it a go, hoping that the hot & spicy flavour might make it edible. Nope, still disgusting! I even had to hide the packet because I kept thinking I could smell it everywhere. Sorry seaweed fans! Ste liked it though.

I went for this noodle snack that comes in an awesome medicine pot style container.

Yum! Like noodle crack. Broken up salty, sugary, MSG-y noodles. Somehow I’ve managed to make them last til now, although I probably could’ve downed the pot in one (its the right size to pour direct into your mouth!), and then lost my tastebuds for a week due to the salt.

Vegan Mofo Day 25 – Awesome Sandwich

Yesterday I picked up some of this Dragonfly smoked tofu as it was reduced. I love smoked tofu so have been tempted to try this before, but the small size and big(ish) price has always put me off, this was the perfect excuse to give it a go.

I dry fried it and put it in this badboy.

Poshy olive bread, cheesly (put on the roll in oven to get nice and melty), smoked tofu, tofu sour cream, and sauteed peppers and onion. Yum! I always want sandwiches like this but can never justify buying all the ingredients just for a sandwich. This time everything came along at the right time – the bread and veg (was a fajita veg bag) were both from my dad (past their sell by goodies), cheesly leftover from nachos, sour cream leftover from burritos and the tofu on sale. Great!

Verdict n the tofu – while it was really nice in the sandwich it wasn’t all that smoky. I might buy it again for this price but full whack I’d rather pay a bit more and get the Tai Fun stuff. Has anyone tried the other Dragonfly stuff? I half-remember trying the soysage stuff years ago and finding it pretty meh.

Also! The awesome Retro Vegan has very kindly picked me as a Liebster Blog! The idea is to pass it along to 5 blogs with less than 200 follwers. Well, every blog I was thinking of has already been given it! And, I have no idea how many followers they have. But giving no love would be mean so here’s some recommendations anyway. Some old favourites (old meaning probably discovered last MoFo!) and others new to me –

Vegan… but not scary

I’ve found lots of great blogs through the MoFo reader but then forgot to bookmark or subscribe, doh! Anyone got any UK blogs to recommend?

Vegan MoFo Day 15 – Kallo Choc Soy

So we’re over half way with MoFo! It’s getting pretty challenging to post everyday but hopefully get some posts in tomorrow and my days off next week.

Today I’ve mostly been attempting to sleep, feeling awful, some vomiting. There goes plans for the day! A real shame cos was a nice sunny day and all. Hopefully tomorrow will be nice too. I did venture out of the house once though, to the supermarket where noticed this new soy milk. It’s been a long time since bought chocolate soy milk but this was on offer for ¬£1, thought would make a nice Saturday night drink rather than booze!

From what I can remember it tastes similar to the Alpro version, but a bit more watery. Nice, but nothing really noteworthy.

Maybe I can master the art of drinking it sensible rather than downing the whole thing in under an hour, then feel sick with it sloshing around inside you. I used to do that a lot when I was 16.

I haven’t been totally unproductive food wise, currently have tofu marinating and carrots pickling for tomorrows Bahn Mi. Can’t wait!

Vegan MoFo Day 11 – Innocent Veg Pot

I’m on a night shift today, so gonna get this post in before my nap.

My Dad has the same habit of buying far too many reduced items from supermarkets. This works out well for me as everytime I go round I leave with a bag of goodies. This time he gave me two Innocent Veg Pots. I’ve had some before (also from my dad’s bargain bag!) but not written about em.

Last night I had the Indian Daal, with some steamed kale on the side.

It was actually pretty tasty, and not such a tiny amount as most ready meals. That said, when full price I think they’re something¬† close to ¬£4, for that price you could knock yourself up a huge curry to last you all week. So, ok if you’re getting em for under a quid but otherwise a bit of a rip.

I’m taking the Mexican Sweet Potato Chili one with me to work tonight. I remember it being a bit boring.

Vegan MoFo Day 8 – Shop Snacks

Here’s a tasty new snack I’ve discovered – Forte Focaccina.

Little focaccia type breads, this one is olive and oregano but I liked the tomato and olive even better (like a wee pizza!). I haven’t been patient enough to oven one yet (today’s was eaten in bed after work before a 3 hour nap!), sure it’d be even nicer.

They come in a package like this –

and are currently 69p my Asda, not bad! Another nice touch is even labelled as suitable for vegans, so you don’t need to worry about any mystery E numbers.

I am about to actually about to cook something real now, but there’s no chance of a photo that won’t look like turd though so will have to wait til tomorrow!
